Veterans and first responders thank-you barbecue set for Saturday

The second annual veterans and first responders’ family barbecue hosted by the Havre Elks Lodge No. 1201 will be Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. in Pepin Park.

The event is open to all veterans, first responders and their families in the region. First responders include sheriff, police and fire departmentpersonnel.

“The purpose of the event is for our community to give back to the veterans and first responders,” Havre Elks Lodge No. 1201 Secretary Brandy Kurtz said.

The Elks Lodge is holding the event in conjunction with other sponsors including Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 497 and CHS Big Sky who will be helping with the meal, and Pepsi who is donating all the beverages.

Holden’s Hot Wheels is going to be providing music for the event. Havre High School cheerleaders will be doing face painting for the children. Games will also be set up for the children includig a bean bag toss, cornhole, volleyball and more.

Last year was the first veterans and first responders’ barbecue and it took place out at Beaver Creek Reservoir.

Kurtz said that it was hottest day of the summer, so it didn’t work out well. She added that the committee at the Elks decided to move back into town this year so that more people could attend and for the event to be in a location with trees and shade.

“This is for us to say, ‘thank you’ and ‘you’re welcome’ and have a barbecue,” Kurtz said.
