Letter to the Editor - Beaver Creek needs non-lethal beaver management

Editor,

Beaver Creek Park is such a treasure in the region and has such great potential for bringing recreational tourism to Hill County. It’s big business, so it’s shameful that the park is managed by a board that allows activities in the park that diminish it’s natural features and threaten wildlife and habitat. Beaver trapping is just one example. Children, pets and any random animal can be maimed or killed in a trap, yet the potential for tragedy is ignored for the benefit of trappers in a public park.

Shouldn’t non-lethal methods be used to manage wildlife when necessary in an area where families go camping on their public land? So why would a grant to fully fund the installation and maintenance of non-lethal tools not get approval from the Beaver Creek Park board?

Do you want your park to be managed by members with a conflict of interest regarding resource management? Or would you rather have your park managed with emphasis on recreation and wildlife habitat?

This is where citizens can get involved in their public land management. If you value your park and safe recreation that will bring visitors and dollars to the community, please make your voice heard.
