Box Elder man killed by Billings police officers

Officers from the Billings Police Department shot a 29-year-old Box Elder man, whose name has yet to be released, during a physical altercation around 10:20 last night.

The name of the man had not yet been released.

A press release issued early this morning on the department’s Twitter account by Lt. Brandon Wooley says officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of Avenue C last night where they made contact with the man.

The release says he began an altercation while officers were detaining him, after which two officers fired their weapons on him.

The man died after he was taken to a hospital for treatment of his wounds. No other injuries related to the incident have been reported.

Wooley said this morning that there is no further information on the incident available and the department is still investigating.

He said a press conference with Billings Police Chief Rich St. John is planned for today at 11 a.m. where more information will be available.
