Northern Foundation participates in GivingTuesday

The MSU-Northern Foundation celebrates GivingTuesday, joining millions around the world participating in the global generosity movement on Dec. 1

HAVRE — This GivingTuesday, the MSU-Northern Foundation, also known as the Northern Alumni Foundation, will inspire generosity by inviting alumni, donors, and friends of Northern to give back to the college and share their light with students, staff, and faculty.

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. GivingTuesday will kick off the generosity season this year by inspiring people to give back on December 1, 2020, and throughout the year.

Tuesday, Dec. 1, the MSU-Northern Foundation will launch a 24-hour fundraiser in celebration of Northern and its bright future. Last year, the Foundation raised a little more than $1,200 on GivingTuesday from online donations. GivingTuesday is one part of the Foundation’s annual appeal letter mailed in late fall, which last year raised over $20,000 in support for the Excellence Fund, scholarships, academic programs, student clubs, and other areas.

GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past nine years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

People demonstrate generosity in many ways on GivingTuesday. Whether it’s helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving to causes important to us, every act of generosity counts. GivingTuesday has raised billions of dollars for critical causes around the world and gets 21 billion impressions on social media from people and organizations speaking up for the initiatives that matter to them and encouraging others to get involved in their communities.

Donations help the MSU-Northern Foundation keep campus thriving. In fiscal year 2020, the Foundation was able to distribute more than $530,000 in scholarships, nearly a 20 percent increase compared to fiscal year 2019. Donors are the reason the Foundation succeeds in its mission to support the goals of the University.

“Through your philanthropy, generosity, and compassion, you are able to bring your light to our Northern students,” Foundation Executive Director Shantel Cronk said.

People can support Northern by making a gift on GivingTuesday, Dec.1, on the Northern Alumni Foundation Facebook page or on its website at http://www.msunfoundation.org .
