Herb was born on April 22, 1934, at the family farm east of Inverness to Herbert A. and Alta Marie (Stevens) White. He was raised on the farm, graduating from Joplin High School in 1952. Following graduation, Herb entered the U.S. Army Reserves and served for several years.

June 28, 1956, he married Lois Seabaum, and the couple had four children. Over the years, Herb farmed for Glen Alex and George and Dick Spicher, and, in the winter, he worked at Chester Motors, Hingham Motors, and the White Shop. Throughout their marriage, the Whites lived in Chester, Inverness and in Hingham.

Herb was a devout Catholic who attended church faithfully and even helped move the Sacred Heart Church in Inverness. He enjoyed family gatherings, hunting, fishing, cards, puzzles, anything outdoorsy, especially his animals and his faithful sidekick, Shotsy. He mostly enjoyed showing his grandkids and great-grandkids what life on the farm was all about.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois "Granny" White; grandson Ryan Ruhkamp; parents, Herbert A. and Alta Marie White; and siblings Donna Minnick, Audrey Waite, Cecelia Jeppeson, Jerry White, David White, and Joseph White.

Herb is survived by his children, Doug (Valerie) White of Chinook and Mesa, AZ, Carla (Ron) Neffendorf of Wasilla, AK, Stanley (Theresa) White of Ashboro, NC, and Vicki (Bryan) Ruhkamp of Havre; thirteen grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; siblings Rose Gehl, Leona Peske, Mary Vollmar, Jim White, Carl White and Ed White; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Herb's family has suggested memorial donations be made in his memory to the Sacred Heart Church of Inverness, PO Box 647, Chester, MT 59522 (please indicate Herb White Memorial in the memo), or to the donor's choice.
