Havre swimming wraps up 2022 with Great Falls relays

In their second weekend of the season, the Havre High swimming teams competed at the PreRelay Meet and the Relay Meet in Great Falls this past weekend. In the PreRelay Meet Friday, both the HHS boys and girls teams finished fifth in their meets. In the Relay Meet Saturday, the HHS boys team took 8th while the HHS girls team finished 11th.

The Blue Ponies had most of their success at the PreRelay Meet Friday. In the boys meet, the Ponies finished fifth with 127 points. Great Falls won that meet with 237 points while Bozeman Gallatin took second and Bozeman took third. In the girls meet, the Ponies scored 136 points to finish fifth. Great Falls won the meet with 272 points with CMR coming in second and Bozeman coming in third.

Many Ponies swam well at the PreRelay Meet. Conner McKay had a strong day as he finished third in the boys 100-yard backstroke and he took fourth in the boys 50-yard freestyle. He recorded a time of 1:16.10 in the 100-yard backstroke and he posted a time of 25.64 in the 50-yard freestyle.

Carson Sandstrom had a strong finish in the boys 100-yard freestyle as he posted a time of 56.54 to finish third. Liliana Smith did well in the girls 500-yard freestyle as she took fourth with a time of 6:25.96.

Kyla Burchard finished sixth in the girls 200-yard IM with a time of 2:48.52 and Ainsley Courtnage took sixth in the girls 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:04.58. Elizabeth Carroll took sixth in the girls 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:13.03 and Blake Taylor finished sixth in the boys 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:18.18.

Several of the HHS relay teams did well at Friday’s PreRelay Meet. In the girls 400-yard freestyle relay, the HHS ‘A’ team finished third with a time of 4:30.60. In the boys 200-yard medley relay, the HHS ‘A’ team took fourth with a time of 2:02.02.

The Ponies did pretty well in the boys 200-yard freestyle relay. The HHS ‘A’ team finished fourth with a time of 1:53.09 while the HHS ‘B’ team finished sixth with a time of 2:13.80. In the girls 200-yard medley relay, the HHS ‘A’ team took fifth with a time of 2:13.15.

With more teams competing at Saturday’s Relay Meet, the Ponies did not do as well. In the boys meet, the Ponies finished eighth with 21 points. Bozeman Gallatin won that meet with 97 points while Bozeman finished second and Billings Central took third. Havre finished 11th in the girls meet with eight points. Bozeman and Great Falls tied for first with 95 points while CMR came in third.

The HHS swimming teams will now head into their holiday break and will return with the Havre Meet on Jan. 7.
