Letters to the Editor - Thanks to top fire fighters and peace officers

I want to acknowledge that the American Legion Post #11, at our December 2022 meeting, decided to again search for our Top Fire Fighter and Peace Officer in Hill County.

I took the project on and I went to the Havre Fire Department and gave them the formal document to choose their top fire fighter/emergency medical technician.

I also submitted the document for Top Peace Officer to Havre Police Department, Hill County Sheriff’s Office, Montana Highwayy Patrol Chief (Hill County) and the U.S. Border Patrol commander in Havre.

I received the application for the request from the Havre Fire Department, the Havre police chief and the Hill County sheriff.

Unfortunately, the Highway Patrol chief and the Havre Border Patrol commander were unable to submit anyone this year.

We had our January meeting Monday, and our membership present voted for the firefighter/EMT: 18 years of service, Capt. Cody McLain.

Hill County sheriff’s deputy: Four years of service, Deputy Chad Minnick.

These two members of our community will have their same documents sent to our headquarters at Fort Harrison/Helena Department for the statewide selection from all American Legion posts submitting their top firefighter and peace officer selections. Once the state receives all these packages, the state American Legion will vote for the Top Firefighter and Peace Officer for the state of Montana. They will be submitted to the national headquarters for a countrywide selection for the Top Firefighter and Peace Officer for our country!

I want to acknowledge the Havre Police Department selection of Sgt. Justin Gomke, who also was recognized for his 11 years of service to our community.

Congratulations to all of these individuals for their recognition of being selected to represent our community in our program to recognize their performance.

American Legion Post #11 Commander David Brewer
