Grief Poem - Loved Ones Do Leave

They've gone ahead, left us behind, still in our hearts and mind.

Our dear ones can't be with us now, it's winter - we're snow-blind.

The day will come - we'll meet again on Heavens distant shore.

Family and friends, we'll see them all, together forever more.

Down here for us, tomorrow comes, however hard the day.

Sadness with tears, sorrow for us, but "Time" wipes tears away.

There's still a reason for living, though sad our hearts may be,

There's always another horizon, beyond the one we see.

Inside our hearts, we're aching still, grief never seems to end.

Our dear ones left a sadness here, a wound that does not mend.

But - you're NOT HERE - you've gone ahead, "t'aint" like it used to be.

The "thread" of love connects us still, a thread no one can see.

In quiet thoughts we live again, the days that knew no "fuss."

How rich in kindness, love and care, how dear you were to "us."

We've lost a fellowship, oh, dear Lord, a life linked with our own,

They're still ours to remember, though, a lineage proud to own.

Someday, we know, we'll meet again, but we don't know just when.

To clasp our hands in better lands, to never part again.

Renew our strength(1); we wait for You; we'll try to get things straight.

Because, with YOU helping us through, we know things will be great.

A new beginning every day - we read in the good Book;

When overwhelmed; hold fast to verse where we'd just took a look.

  (1) (Isaiah 40:31) "But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint."
