After a huge win over over the Providence Argos last Thursday night in Billings, the Montana State University-Northern men's wrestling team was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for Feb. 6-12, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
After a drought of being dropped from the NAIA poll, MSU-Northern finally secured the last spot in the final ranking released this week by the National Office. Riding the accomplishment of their newfound spot, the Lights went to work, upsetting No. 9 University of Providence in its final dual of the season.
The teams matched up in early November and the Argos walked away with a 28-10 victory, but the Lights were not planning to repeat history. Beginning with the 125-weight class, Tanner Cook took down Deven Altenburg-Lasher with a sudden victory fall. Devin Crawford also achieved a sudden victory win over Bridger Hall in a 6-4 decision of the 165-weight class. No. 15-ranked Carl Hansen upset No. 14-ranked Liam Swanson with a fall in the 197-weight class. Brennon McDermott, No. 7-ranked Martin Wilkie, and No. 2-ranked NaKoda Siegel, also assisted the Lights to a 23-17 victory in their respective weight classes.
MSU-Northern accounted for five of the conference's 50 national allocations. The spots will be earned based on performances at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament which will be held Friday and Saturday in Prescott, Arizona.
