The Great Northern Fair Board announced at its monthly meeting Tuesday evening that its project to replace the fairgrounds’ western bathrooms will not be finished in time for this year’s fair, despite their hopes to the contrary.
Board Chair Michelle Burchard said the estimate for the project came in around $450,000, which was far more than expected and much more than the fair can afford at the moment.
Burchard said they are currently about $200,000 short, but they are hoping to hold some fundraisers for the project and hopefully make up the difference in time to get the project done before the 2024 fair.
Vice-Chair Bob Kaul said they are also looking into grant funding.
Board members also discussed ongoing projects to replace the horse barn’s roof, make improvements to the 4-H Chuckwagon, improve the Bigger Better Barn’s bathrooms and their office building.
Burchard said they are also drawing up a new memorandum of understanding with 4-H, as the current one expires in June.
Board Member Ken Erikson said the Bear Paw Ski Bowl Brewfest will be Saturday, which will have live music entertainment.
Mar. 31 and Apr. 1, he said, will see the return of Montana State University-Northern’s Bares and Broncs, and Apr. 6 they will host a Havre Police Protective Association Aaron Tippin concert in the Bigger Better Barn.
