People asked to use caution, follow regs, on fireworks

Press release

Summer means picnics, barbecues, parades and fireworks displays, especially around the Fourth of July. Summer also means an increase in injuries from backyard grills, bonfires and fireworks.

Havre Fire Department advises that the best way to safely enjoy this Fourth of July is to watch a public fireworks display conducted by professionals.

However, people who plan to use fireworks need to exercise caution and follow the City of Havre ordinances for the use of fireworks in the city limits.

1. Fireworks may be discharged July 2-4 from 8 a.m. to midnight.

2. Not all fireworks are allowed. Skyrockets, roman candles and bottle rockets are excluded, as well as any other fireworks not allowed by the state of Montana.

3. Children 7 and younger must be in direct supervision of a parent or guardian.

4. The discharge of fireworks in city parks is not allowed.

5. Anyone leaving debris from discharged fireworks will be cited for littering.

The following are more safety measures to help keep you and your community safe.

• Use fireworks outdoors only.

• Always have water on hand — a hose or buckets of water.

• Only use fireworks as intended. do not alter them or combine them.

• Keep unused fireworks away from firing areas.

• Never have any portion of your body directly over a firework while lighting.
