Grief Poem - The Light Still Shines

Minutes slip by and so days, but Grief remains so long.

A noise is heard; Oh! Are 'they' back? We couldn't be more wrong.

Some time ago, a cowboy 'left'; his horse stood by corral gate.

Horse waited there - would eat and drink, then died about day eight!

A farmer said 'creatures' grieve too, be they birds, bugs, or beasts.

We've seen a few, birds and rabbits, they act like they've been 'fleeced'

A kitchen noise - we think of Mom! Can almost smell fresh bread!

She was a cook - so very good; we blink, we know she's dead.

Family and friends, they cross our mind - they'll never be 'forgot'.

Changing weather messes our thoughts; to hold hands meant a lot.

A day goes by, we're still alone, memories of dear ones stay,

You're with us, Lord; always will be, You're with us every day.

We do recall an old OLD tale, of little girl, not well.

They'd watched Black Birds up in a tree, when one dropped dead and fell.

Some time went by, the girl was ill; questioning what Dad would say;

About the birdies in the tree and for her, he might pray.

Her dad had died some months before, lil' girl missed him so much.

She felt that she could share her 'tale; she wished to stay in 'touch'.

Some 'time' passed by; Mom said, 'Get up'. Slow - she got out of bed.

"I saw Daddy, he said to 'COME", she stood, then she dropped dead.

LONG AGO Tale - could have been true, but GOD knows what is best.

God gave us life, also free will, once we're called home, we'll rest!

Grief will not last, loved ones we'll see, we'll be under God's care.

When we've finished our work down here, we'll meet God in the air!

Every soul is dear to You, Lord, in Your image we're made.

The Light Still Shines(1), we'll hang on Lord, we'll not be lost or swayed.
