This past weekend, the Montana State University-Northern volleyball team began the season with the Big Sky Challenge in Butte. In their first three matches of the season, the Skylights went 1-2.
The Skylights started the weekend Thursday night with their match against the Evergreen State College. In their first match of the season, the Skylights won 3-0. The Skylights started the season strong by winning the first set 25-14. The. Skylights kept it up by winning the second set 25-13.
The third set was more competitive between the two teams, but the Skylights finished strong to win the set, 25-17, and to close out the match. In her first match of the season, Alyssa Pretty Weasel led MSU-N with 11 kills. Baily Egan also had a strong match with 22 digs.
The Skylights continued the weekend on Friday afternoon with a match against Eastern Oregon University. This time out, the Skylights lost 3-0. The Mountaineers started strong as they won the first set 25-14. The Skylights played better in the second set, but still lost 25-20.
The Mountaineers won the third set, 25-15, to close out the match. In the loss, Pretty Weasel and Alana Graves each recorded seven kills for the Skylights. Emily Feller led the team with 15 digs.
The Skylights closed out the weekend Saturday with a match against the College of Idaho. In their final match of the weekend, the Skylights lost 3-0. The Skylights and Yotes went back and forth throughout the first match. However, the Yotes eventually won 32-30.
The Yotes then won the second set, 25-18, to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Skylights played another competitive set against the Yotes, but still lost, 26-24, to end the match. Feller led MSU-N with 10 kills while Josie Hasler led the team with 15 digs.
At the end of their first weekend of the season, the Skylights have a 1-2 record. The MSU-N volleyball team will continue the season with the OUAZ Volleyball Tournament in Surprise, Arizona, this weekend.
