The Montana State University-Northern wrestling team got a lot of work in this past weekend in Great Falls.
On Friday, the Lights went 1-1 at the Argo Duals, then placed double digits at Saturday’s Battle of the Rockies, also hosted by Providence.
Northern, under head coach Tyson Thivierge, beat Northwest College 30-18 Friday, with wins from Tanner Cook, Colin Silverthorn, Justin Windauer, Devin Crawford, NaKoda Siegel, Rylin Burns and Carl Hansen. The Lights did fall to No. 3 Southeastern Friday, 34-6, with wins coming from Siegel and Burns.
Northern was equally as good on Saturday in the Battle of the Rockies Open as 14 grapplers reached the podium.
Windauer won his second title in as many weeks, going perfect at 157 pounds, while teammates Ryan Graves took third and Cale Ibach took fourth.
Meanwhile, Hansen took second at 197 pounds, while Austin Vanek was second at 184 and Cook was also runner-up at 125 pounds.
Silverthorn placed sixth for the Lights at 141, while Georgino Moraga was fourth at 149, Crawford was third at 165, Reece White was fourth at 174, and Gabe Walker was sixth at heavyweight.
The Lights return to the Armory Gymnasium this Thursday when they host Dickinson State in an NAIA dual.
