City deals with water main breaks, urges caution

Break on U.S. Highway 2 East repaired Thursday, work on a Fourth Street break underway this morning

Havre Public Works repaired a water main break on U.S. Highway 2 east late Thursday, and now is working on a break near Carpenter Park.

Late Thursday afternoon, Havre Public Works announced in a release sent out at 4:59 p.m. that it was dealing with a water break on the 1800 block of U.S. Highway 2 East, in the area of Pacific Recycling.

The announcement said the department also had just been notified of another water main break in the Carpenter Park area of town, requiring the city to shut the water off between 10th Avenue and 12th Avenue on Fourth Street while the department repairs the break.

The announcement said that, due to the other water break that the department’s crews were working on, the original estimated repair time for that break would be this afternoon.

This morning, the department reported that, since the break on U.S. Highway 2 was resolved Thursday, crews were working on the Fourth Street break.

The announcement Thursday emphasized that people need to be aware of employees and equipment working in the area.

“Please respect the barricades that will be in place for our safety while we remedy this situation as quickly as possible,” the announcement concludes.
