Obituary - Webster K. Thackeray

SIDNEY - Webster K. Thackeray, 97, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care Facility in Sidney, MT, with family by his side.

Celebration of Life Services will be Monday, January 22, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fulkerson Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Sidney, MT, with Pastor Tim Tharp officiating. There will be a gathering at the funeral home after the service for desserts and coffee.

Webster and Charlotte will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery in Havre, MT, at a later date.

Webster Thackeray was born August 9, 1926, to Jack and Lena (Leidig) Thackeray. He grew up with his brothers, Leonard, John, Fred, and Raymond, on the family ranch in the Bear Paw Mountains south of Havre, MT. He attended nearby Lawlor Elementary school.

In 1947, Web went to work for the Great Northern Railroad. He was then drafted into the Army in 1950, and honorably discharged in 1952. He then returned to work for the railroad until 1955, when he went back to the ranch. Web served on the Bear Paw Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

Web married Ethel Strandquist in 1957. They had two children, Kay and Glen. Ethel passed away in 1966 and Web married Charlotte O'Brien in 1967. They were happily married for 55 years.

Besides ranching, Web raised a big garden and enjoyed sharing his produce with friends and neighbors. He was known for his candy making skills as well, especially divinity. Web loved visiting and had a big smile for everyone. He was always willing to help anyone who needed it!

Web and Charlotte retired from ranching and moved to Havre in 1994. In 2010 they moved to Sidney to be closer to family. In retirement, Web could be found hanging out with his brothers, taking his grandchildren to the park, or having ice cream at the DQ.

He is survived by his daughter, Kay (Patrick) Hatter and their children, Jackie (Jake) and Wyatt (Kate); his son, Glen Thackeray and his daughters Meagan, Darlett, and Courtney; five great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Betty Thackeray.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Leonard, Fred, John, and Raymond.
