HHS netters play tough teams in Cut Bank

It was a key weekend of tennis for the Havre Blue Ponies, as they took on four tough Class A teams this weekend.

On Friday at the Class A Invite in Cut Bank, the HHS boys and girls took on Billings Central and Polson, then Havre returned to Cut Bank Saturday to face Libby and Hardin.

On the boys side, Havre fell to the Rams 7-0, and the Pirates 4-3. Havre got a win from Wyatt Jelly at No. 2 singles against Polson, while Carter and Max Spangler scored a big win at No. 1 doubles and Mason Kinsella and Carter Chagnon won at No. 3.

In the girls duals Friday, the Ponies also fell to Central 7-0, but lost to Polson 6-1. Louise Evangelista was the key winner for the Ponies against Polson, as she was victorious at No. 3 singles.

Returning to Cut Bank Saturday, the Havre boys beat Libby 4-3. The Ponies swept the doubles with Spangler and Spangler, and the teams of Reid Kato and Callen Stoner and Kinsella and Chagnon all winning. Vance Burr also scored a clinching win for the Ponies at No. 3 singles. The Havre boys finished the weekend with a tough, 6-1 loss to Hardin. The lone win came from Kinsella and Chagnon at No. 3 doubles.

The Havre girls meanwhile, fell to Hardin 7-0 and Libby 5-2. Tyley Hemmer scored a win at No. 1 singles for the Pony girls, while Evangelista also won at No. 3 singles.

After four tough duals, head coach Jeff Miller's Ponies will return to action next week in Great Falls and Glendive. The Ponies also host a JV tournament Tuesday.
