News you can use

From Tee to Green: Possibly the final printed version

As many of you know by now, the Havre Daily News will become the Havre Weekly News later this week. It will be a big change for everybody, including myself and how we do the sports stories.

That change will also affect this column. And the main change will be the timing of it. So, as we navigate the changes that will come with transitioning to a weekly newspaper, this column will be an online only article for the foreseeable future. The published date won't change, and you will be able to read the new golf column every Tuesday on our website, so make sure to look for it there.

Having said that, as I figure things out for what can be published in our print version, which will be every Thursday, I may be able to add the golf column to it. We'll just have to see how it goes, but never fear, local golf is important to so many of us, and I will be writing this weekly column, the same as I have been for over 20 years now.

With that out of the way, on to some local golf news.

Congrats to Dylan Young who recorded a hole-in-one last week at Prairie Farms Golf Course. Young aced the Par 3 fourth hole at Prairie from 145 yards out with a 7-iron. The shot was witnessed by Gunnar Aaegeson and Joe Curtis.

Way to go Dylan!

Speaking of aces, your's truly thought he had his first ace on Friday. I was playing the severely downhill Par-3 14th hole at Walnut Creek Preserve here in Colorado, and with a wedge, myself and my three playing companions literally watched the shot got right into the hole after a short roll. We celebrated, we were all excited and I even prepared to get photos and ready to write about this week. However, minutes later, as my cart approached the side of the green, my heart sank as I could see my ball literally resting on the edge of the back of the hole. It was trying to fall back in the hole but never did, and because it was directly behind the flagstick, it was obvious that the ball had "lipped out" and instead of my first career ace, it was the most disappointing 2 of my golfing life.

Golf sure is a cruel game sometimes.

In more happy golf news, leagues are beginning in the area. This week, both nights of men's league at Beaver Creek Golf Course will get underway. To all league administrators, please e-mail me your results and standings each Sunday so that I can get them in this column.

Also, congrats to BCGC for creating a website. The site at http://www.beavercreekgolf.com went live yesterday, so be sure to check it out.
