  • View from the North 40: A double-header fight of Them vs. Us, They vs. We

    Pam Burke|Updated Sep 20, 2019

I’m not much into Them and They or Us and We, but the struggle between Them and Us and They and We has been growing in the last decade. I heard it in town last week, a conversation about Them. The conversation, which did not include me, by its volume did not exclude me either. It filled the room with talk of They and Them as opposed to Us and We, and about how a grown man, one of Us, might become one of Them by virtue of proximity to too many of Them. The problem with Them i...

  • Out Our Way: The right trail

    Updated Sep 20, 2019

Out our way, Charlie and I always had the advantage of the cow-calf units and the bulls because we knew the "right trail." When we started moving the herd we knew where they were going and why they were going there. The cattle didn't have a clue - but it was the right trail because it was the way to fresh pasture, good water, and some protection from the coming winter storms that would soon arrive. I have started to finally realize that God is the ultimate Herder for His...

  • Pastor's Corner: Celebrating 'Small Town U.S.A.'

    Updated Sep 20, 2019

When I saw the theme for this year’s Festival Days, “Small Town U.S.A.,” it started to remind me of my family’s time in Montana and all of the blessings I am thankful for and attribute to several “small towns U.S.A.” In August of 1992, I came by myself to Montana from Tilton, New Hampshire. I flew into Great Falls, stayed at the Budget Inn there, rented a small car, and drove to Chester, Montana — where I spent the weekend candidating to be the future pastor of Chester Assembly of God Church. The 32 people there that Su...
