    Pam Burke|Updated Dec 14, 2018

I like to think of it as that we feel sympathy in the heart and empathy in the gut. While I have a normal human capacity for sympathy, it’s my overactive empathy disorder that I always have to keep in check. For instance, despite the fact that I once sold...

  • Out Our Way: Silent Night - Psalm 46:10

    Updated Dec 14, 2018

Out our way, the best way to learn some things is to just be quiet. I recall Charlie and I riding fence one day when we came across a lone calf far from the rest of the herd. Usually the little tykes stay close to mama — but this one was apparently a curious and adventurous type … or just plain naughty. Whatever the reason, the herd had moved over the ridge to the reservoir and this guy had been left behind. He wasn’t overly frightened or curious about these two riders coming up upon him — in fact he pretty well ignored us. H...

  • Pastor's Corner: Service held for people with a blue Christmas

    Updated Dec 14, 2018

Friday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m., Van Orsdel United Methodist Church will host its second annual “Blue Christmas” service. But just what is a “Blue Christmas” service? I hear you ask. Let me try to answer that for you now. For many people, the approaching Christmas holiday does not bring with it the joy and happiness that is advertised on television or in greeting cards. Consequently blue, as in the blues; as in “I’m feeling blue.” Believe it or not, many people do not experience the Advent/Christmas season as a period of joy...

  • Hello, God. It's me, Mara

    Updated Dec 14, 2018

You know, Lord, here’s an interesting Bible verse for this season from Psalm 62:5: “My soul waits silently for God alone, for my expectations are from Him.” As we practice Your Presence, Lord, we can expect. A story is told of a mother who expects: she expects it’s going to be a bright day; she expects to hear from a family member; she expects her lima beans are sprouting and that it will be an early spring; she expects her children to be good. This mother expects the best. June Masters Bacher wrote, “Such a way of thinking...

The Havre U.S. Army National Guard has served the community and the country for many generations. The Havre Army National Guard had been located different posts within the community before the Armory was established on Second Street, h...

That’s because Purcell is a former Havre Blue Pony. And not only is he a former Pony, but, he guided the Ponies to one of their greatest seasons in school h...

    George Ferguson|Updated Dec 14, 2018

The Montana State University-Northern men's and women's basketball teams each have three non-conference games in sunny and warm Phoenix next week.
