Fairfield flies over competition Saturday

Seven teams made the trip to Havre Saturday for the Chinook/Chester Invitational Tennis Tournament.

Along with locals Big Sandy, Chinook and Chester, Fairfield, Wolf Point, Fort Benton and Choteau competed in the day-long tournament.

The tournament was run with the No. 1 and No. 2 singles competing in one bracket and the No. 3 and No. 4 singles in another. The No. 1 doubles had their own bracket with the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams in the final bracket. Due to the setup of the brackets, no team scores were kept.

Chinook coach Melissa Hamman said Fairfield "pretty much dominated. They placed in every bracket."

Hamman said she was very pleased with her team, especially her junior varsity team.

"We did exceptionally well," she said. "My JV team did especially well. They're all sophomores and freshmen. They're coming up fast. They will be really tough next year and will help replace the seniors I will lose after this year."

Chinook's Lacey Tollefson placed third in No. 3/No. 4 singles. The Chester duo of Matkin and Tempel won No. 1 doubles with Chinook's doubles team of Overcast and Sargent winning No. 2/No. 3 doubles. Chinook's team of Thackeray and Eslick placed fourth in the same bracket.
