Havre 14-, 15-year-olds fall; 13-year-olds win

The Havre 14- and 15-year-old Babe Ruth All-Star team came up just short in the opening round of the district tournament Thursday at Legion Field. The local squad fell to Livingston 3-2 in a very close game.

Livingston picked up an early 2-0 lead in the second inning as pitcher David Foster doubled and a pair of Havre miscues led to the runs.

Another Havre mistake on a fly-ball led to another run Livingston put together back-to-back singles to score the run.

Havre got on the board in its final at-bat. Sean Peterson drove in a pair of runs to cut the lead to one. However, the rally came up short.

Havre managed just four singles - two from John Christian and one apiece from Austin Small and Peterson - in the game.

Peterson took the loss for Havre after pitching a solid game, allowing just five hits.

In other first round action, Lewistown defeated Golden Triangle 7-1 while Belgrade knocked off Bozeman 5-2.

Havre will face the Northern Golden Triangle team tonight at 5:30 p.m. following the tournament's opening ceremonies, which begin at 5 p.m. A home run derby and bubble blowing contest will follow the game.

13-YEAR-OLDS PICK UP WIN

BELGRADE - The Havre 13-year-old Babe Ruth All-Star team wasn't the kindest of guests.

Havre blasted the host Belgrade squad 12-2 in five innings in first round action at the district tournament.

Tyler Rucinsky pitched all five innings to pick up the win while the entire squad hit well in the win.

According to head coach Kevin Johnson, the team got a solid defensive effort from shortstop Tyler Boyce in the win.

Havre will face Billings today at 3 p.m., which will be a crucial game as Billlings was considered the favorite coming into the tournament.
