Skylights split pair of games at Grant MacEwan tournament

The Montana State University-Northern women's basketball team split its opening games at the Grant MacEwan Invitational tournament in Edmonton, AB.

Northern dropped a tough 70-68 game to Capilano College to open the tournament on Sunday.

The Skylights were led by Michele VanDyke's 13 points while Chasi Buffington and Jessi Reome scored 12 points apiece in the loss.

Capilano had four players in double figures led by Marissa Porter's 15 points.

Northern rebounded from the loss on Monday with a 69-62 win over Concordia College.

The Skylights rolled to a 34-24 lead at halftime and staved off a Concordia's second-half rally to pick up the win.

Reome led all scorers with 20 points including four three-pointers. Khadiga Mohamed also had a solid game, scoring 17 points, while Megan Valgardson added 12 points in the win.

The Skylights will head to Calgary for the Mount Royale College tournament on Friday and Saturday.
