LESLIE S. ZYGMOND obituary

Leslie S. Zygmond, 70, died March 29, 2010, of heart failure. She was born in Wichita, Kan., to Eunice M. and Chester K. Shore. In 1962, she married Jack J. Zygmond in Helena, Mont. They lived in Helena, Mont. And Santa Fe, N.M. In 1969, they moved to Larned, Kan., where they purchased a family newspaper, The Tiller and Toiler. They owned and operated this daily newspaper until 1987. Leslie was a photojournalist and served as editor of The Tiller and Toiler until it was sold in 1987. She became an LPN in 1987 and worked many years with Hospice, St. Peter's and in-home health care. An accomplished photographer and artist, she published two photo books entitled Barns and Farms while living in Kansas. Leslie is survived by six children, all of whom loved her very much, Amy Jensen, Scott Zygmond, and Brock Zygmond, of Helena, Mont., Nancy (Kevin) Platts of Elizabeth, Colo., Bart (Jen) Zygmond of Carmel, Calif., Carrie (Bret) Bodlovic of Potomac, and stepdaughter, Dani (Mike) Crowley of Eugene, Ore. She was a loving grandmother to her 10 grandchildren, Andrea Tomlinson, Aaron Spreier, Aryka (Steven) Swanson, Tori Zygmond, Sarah Platts, Ben Platts, Tyler Platts, Bryce Zygmond, Jadyn Zygmond, Brooks Zygmond and baby girl Swanson to be born in July 2010. She is also survived by loving brothers, Tony (Jenny) Shore and Michael Shore; and her beloved sisters-in-law, Zonie Zygmond, Margaret Webb, Marcia Zygmond and Mike Zygmond; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Chris Shore and Wallace Shore; her parents, Eunice M. and Chester K. Shore; her husband, Jack J. Zygmond; and her daughters, Jane Leslie Zygmond and Shelle Suzanne Zygmond-Purcell. A memorial celebration of Leslie's life is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Retz Funeral Home Chapel, Helena. Cremation has taken place under the care of Retz Funeral Home.
