Jeffrey “Buzzy” Lavonne Azure Sr

Jeffrey "Buzzy" Lavonne Azure, Sr., "Buffalo Robe," 61, died of heart complications at Northern Montana Hospital on March 1, 2011.

A wake was held at the family residence in Havre on Friday beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wake services started at the Red Whip Center in Fort Belknap at 5 p.m. on Saturday and will be held at the Medicine Bear Lodge in Lodge Pole, Sunday at 5 p.m.

Traditional graveside services will be officiated by Spiritual Leader Marcus Red Thunder beginning Monday, March 7, 2011, at 10 a.m., at the Brisbo Family Cemetery at Big Warm. Pipe and Smudging ceremonies will be throughout the wakes. Non-denominations are welcome. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.

Pallbearers are: Sheldon Flying, David Healy, Jr., Ira Healy, Jake Brisbo, Austin Brisbo, Bobby Brockie and his sons Jeff Jr., Daniel and Jason Azure. Honorary bearers are all his family and friends.

Jeffrey was born to Inez Brisbo and William "Billy Rose" Azure on Oct. 22, 1949, in Fort Belknap. He married Louwanna Cavanaugh in 1968 and divorced her in 1986, but they remained friends. To this union they had four children, Cynthia, Daniel, Jason and Jeff Azure Jr. Jeffrey was an enrolled member of the White Clay Nation of Fort Belknap and attended schools in Lodge Pole and Flandreu, S. D. He then went on to complete welding school in Michigan. During his lifetime, he worked as a ranch hand in his younger years building fences and breaking horses. He was a mechanic and tinkered with cars and later worked as a welder until a brain injury prevented him from working. Buzzy lived in Billings, Butte, Big Warm, and in 1986 moved to Havre where he lived until his death. His hobbies were dancing, barbeques and visiting many friends and relatives.

Buzzy is survived by daughter, Cynthia Azure; sons, Daniel, Jason and Jeff Azure Jr., all of Spirit Lake, N.D.; brothers, Joe Azure of Havre, and Steven Matte, Alan Matte, and Destry Brisbo, all of Butte; sister, Gayleen "Teeny" No Runner of Fort Belknap; and adopted sisters, Angie Dempsey of Polson and Francene Brockie of Havre. Buzzy was also survived by 18 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Buzzy is preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Lulu (Brisbo) Sullivan, Daisy (Brisbo) Gilliam and Brenda Matte.
