Havre's Mazurkiewicz places fifth for UGF

For the second straight year, former Havre high wrestling standout Myles Mazurkiewicz has earned NAIA All-American honors.

Mazurkiewicz finished off his 2011 NAIA national tournament by finishing in fifth place at 141 pounds on Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The UGF sophomore garnered a second-place finish at the national tournament a year ago.

After enduring injury problems this season, Mazurkiewicz, who moved up to 141 pounds this season, came into the tournament unseeded and ranked 8th nationally. He ran into rival Tommy pretty of Campblesville in the second round on Thursday and lost a close 5-3 decision. After winning four straight consolation matches, Mazurkiewicz met Pretty again in the consolation semifinals, and fell short again, by an 8-4 decision. The duo wrestled for last year's 133-pound national championship.

Mazurkiewicz rebounded Morningside's Drew Smith in the fifth/sixth match by a score of 8-2, giving him a fifth-place finish overall and a second straight all-american honor in his first two years for the Argos.

Mazurkiewicz, a former two-time state champion at Havre High, will be a junior at UGF next season.
