Local cowboys head to Wyoming

A pair of local cowboys will be among many Montanans competing at the upcoming National High School Finals Rodeo next week in Gillette, Wyo.

Havre's Nick Owens and Big Sandy's Weston Brown will both be competing in rough stock events for Team Montana at the high school finals which get under way Sunday in Gillette.

Both Owens, who will be a senior at Havre High, and Brown who is a senior at Big Sandy, qualified through outstanding performances at the Montana High School Rodeo Finals earlier this spring in Bozeman.

The NHSRA will feature over 1,500 competitors from 41 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia, making the event the world's largest single rodeo. Contestants will be competing for over $200,000 in prizes and over $350,000 in college scholarships.

The rodeo begins on Sunday and there are two preliminary go-arounds. The top in each event will advance to the finals round on July 23. Rodeo fans can follow the event at http://www.nhsra.org.
