MSU-N names Lewis top women's assitant

When the 2012-13 NAIA women's basketball season begins, the Montana State University-Northern women's basketball team will have a new face on the bench.

Northern head coach Chris Mouat announced recently that he has hired Liz Lewis to serve as the Skylights' top assistant for the upcoming season. Lewis replaces Julie Ann Keller who served as the top assistant, as well as the school's Sports Information Director the past two seasons.

Lewis is a 2005 graduate of Churchill County High School in Fallon, Nevada. At Churchill, Lewis was a 4-sport standout in basketball, volleyball, soccer, and softball. She earned All-State accolades in basketball, and was named tournament Most Valuable Player at the prestigious State Farm Holiday Classic as a senior. The tournament traditionally features top Nevada teams from the Reno area.

Lewis started her collegiate career at Dixie State College, where she spent two seasons. She completed her career at Rocky Mountain College, where she was a two-time, first team All-Frontier pick. She was also named Rocky's Female Athlete of the Year in 2009.

Lewis brings quality coaching experience to Northern. She spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Rocky Mountain College, and spent last year at NCAA Division II Central Washington University. She is currently completing her master's degree in coaching and athletic administration.

According to Mouat, Lewis has a lot to offer the Skylight program.

"Liz was a great player who always had my respect, and someone we are excited about having on board. She brings three years of college experience to Northern," Mouat said. "She is very motivated and passionate about the game, and her impact with our kids is already noticeable. Without a doubt, she is a great addition to MSU-Northern and the Skylight program."
