Breaking Sports: Blue Ponies thump Indians on senior night

The Havre High football team moved one step closer to clinching a Class A playoff berth, and in the process, closed out the home portion of its schedule in style. On Friday night at Blue Pony Stadium, HHS sent its three seniors out with a 40-8 win over the Browning Indians, and senior Zach Plum dominated the game on both sides of the ball.

Plum caught three long touchdown passes from Dane Warp in the first half to give HHS a 26-0 halftime lead. He added a fourth score near the end of the third quarter as the Ponies built a commanding 40-0 lead before the Indians scored in the final stanza. Plum also dominated on the defensive side of the ball, intercepting Browning quarterback Jalen Croff twice, and he anchored what was a dominating Havre defense which only allowed Browning into scoring territory twice on the night. Plum's two picks gives him nine on the season and tied him with Marc Mariani for the single-season Pony record. Sophomore Jordan Schroeder also scored on an interception and a two-yard TD run.

The win also gives Havre a good shot at clinching a playoff berth. The Ponies are 2-1 in the Central A and 4-4 overall heading into next week's showdown with the Livingston Rangers in Livingston. Depending on point differential, Havre could finish anywhere from first to third with a win in Livingston, but also on points, the Ponies could miss out on the playoffs with a loss to the Rangers, though that scenario is a long shot.
