Box Elder woman dies in crash

Update: After a call from a family member that clarified the Highway Patrol's report, we changed the story, placing Parker behind Newton before the accident.

A 44-year-old Box Elder woman died Thursday morning in a collision on Lower Box Elder Road.

Mary Rose Lamere was riding in a southbound 2003 Dodge Stratus with driver 56-year-old William Newton and fellow passenger 35-year-old Frank Stiffarm.

They were ahead of Ryan James Parker, who was driving a 2006 Pontiac G6, around 2:45 a.m. today, when Parker rearended Newton's car.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol report, Newton's Stratus went off the west side of the road, rolling and partially ejected "the right front passenger." Parker ended up in the opposite ditch.

Aside from Lamere's death, Stiffarm was the only other person injured and sent to Northern Montana Hospital.

Of the four people involved, only Lamere was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, according to the report.

The report also states that both alcohol and wet roads were contributing factors.
