Obituary - Robert W. Watkins

Robert W. Watkins was called home by our heavenly father Oct. 2, 2014. Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at 2 p.m., at the Chinook High School Auditorium. Arrangements have been made with Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook. Condolences may be left of the family at http://www.edwardsfuneralhomemt.com.

Bob was born Jan. 6, 1922, at the old Sacred Heart Hospital in Havre. He is the son of the late Ben and Katie Watkins, the youngest of nine brothers and sisters. He graduated Chinook High School in 1941. Shortly after that he enlisted in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge in 1946. He earned several medals during his stay in the Army.

He then returned home to Chinook to work the family farm. In Chinook, he met the love of his life, Lenore. They married Oct. 19, 1946. Together they made a home on the old homestead ranch, north of Chinook, where they lived and worked for 65 years. They raised four children there. He was also a Mason. He recently received his 50-year pin.

Bob loved spending time with family and friends sharing stories. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to dances and helping out the neighbors whenever they needed it. He was a great friend to all and always had a funny joke or story to tell you. He found laughter in many ways. One of his favorite sayings was "Don't stick beans up your nose." That was his way of saying good bye.

He was preceded in death by his two sons, Curtis Eugene and Ricky Glenn; his parents, Ben and Katherine; brothers, Lawrence, Percy, Orville, Everett and Glenn; and sisters, Grace, Blanche, Helen and Ethel.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Lenore; son, Jerry; daughter; Kelly; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He will be missed by many. So here's to you dad, "don't stick beans up your nose" until we meet again.
