Local artist captures Montana

A Don Greytak finished sketch is displayed at the Old Library Gallery. Friday's Hi-Line Living will be about the Havre artist.

Don Greytak has been producing his detailed pencil drawing for over 35 years and has become a staple in Montana art.

His depictions are often, if not in most cases, of rural Montana landscapes and farm and ranch life. The walls of the Old Library Gallery are lined with his originals - rodeos, tractors, airplanes and Montanans of days gone by.

Greytak said he only draws what he knows. Each piece on the wall has a backstory to it and each scene was experienced by the artist in some fashion. Those who grew up around similar scenes would be challenged to find a false detail. The horses are ta...
