Gov't. review commission sets timetable

Members of the Havre Study Commission, which is reviewing possible changes in the city’s form of government, will soon start interviewing city department heads to get their thoughts.

Commissioners Monday night went over ideas for questions of the department heads.

After meeting with the city administrators, they will meet with community groups — service agencies, senior citizens groups and the like — to get input from them.

The commissioners — Dave Brewer, Perry Atchison and Lowell Swenson — were elected in November after voters decided in favor of having a review of the way city hall operates.

The commissioners will spend the next year deciding whether to suggest substantial changes in the form of government. A city manager form of government has been suggested.

Brewer, chair of the panel, said an open public hearing will be held later this year to get ideas from the public.

Early next year, the commissioner will make its decision after getting more public input, he said.

By August the panel will make its final report.

If it decides that changes are necessary, the proposal will be placed on the November 2016 ballot, he said.

The panel meets at 6:30 p.m., the second Monday of each month,in the back conference room in City Hall, Brewer said. The meetings are open to the public.
