Violet was born on Oct. 11, 1921, in Ambrose, North Dakota, to Herman and Anna (Kopergaard) Strand.

Violet married the love of her life, Harold J. Hansen, in 1941 and moved to Ophiem, Montana, where Harold managed Farmers Union Oil.

Later, when Harold became an agent for Farmers Union Insurance, they relocated to Havre, Montana, and raised their two sons Duane and Kelly. Violet worked as a bookkeeper for Cenex in Havre for many years before relocating to Fairfield, Montana, where she retired from Green Field Co-op in 1989.

Violet then moved to Sun Prairie Village and enjoyed many years with good friends there. She later relocated to Kalispell to be near family and made many more friends at the Kalispell Senior Apartments.

Violet was a loving and devoted mother. She was proud of her sons and was honored to become a grandmother and great grandmother. She loved holidays and get-togethers; any chance to spend time with family was important to her.

Violet had a great love for crocheting and gardening, her favorite flowers being moss roses and African violets. She loved to watch birds and greatly enjoyed listening to music and baking her homeland's traditional lefsa. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

Violet is preceded in death by her husband, Harold J. Hansen, brother Melvin Strand of Crosby, North Dakota, and parents, Herman and Anna Strand of Ambrose, North Dakota.

Violet was a devoted mother, and is survived by sons Duane (RondaJan) Hansen of Granby, Colorado and Kelvin (Debbie) Hansen of Kalispell and daughter-in-law Debra (Jay) VanDeRiet of Fairfield. She was the loving grandmother of Kelly Ann (Cole) Cunningham, Melissa (Trigger) Hansen, and Renee (Kevin) Flynn. Violet was the proud and adorning great-grandmother to Lenni Violet, Maxwell and Willa. Violet is also survived by best friends LaVerne Knolwes of Great Falls, Dodie Christopherson of Billings, and Marcelene Howard of Miles City.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the exceptional staff at The Springs Assisted Living Center in Whitefish
