Havre Daily brings home 19 awards from state newspaper convention

The Havre Daily News brought back multiple awards from Friday and Saturday's 132nd Annual Convention of the Montana Newspaper Association after the Better Newspaper Contest awards banquet in Lewistown, with publisher Stacy Mantle accepting 19 awards including seven first-place plaques.

"This was a great year for the Havre Daily," Mantle, who earned many of the awards herself, said this morning. "It has been a while since we have earned this many awards.

"I am looking forward to working together with the staff, so we can continue earning many more awards at future conventions," Mantle added.

The first-place awards were in the cagetories Best Newspaper Promotional Ad, Stacy Mantle; Best Sponsor Page, staff; Best Ad to Sell or Promote Merchandise, Black and White, Stacy Mantle; Best Page Layout and Design, Stacy Mantle; Best Overall Website, Staff; Best Front Page, Stacy Mantle; and Best Headline Writing, Tim Leeds, Pam Burke and Stacy Mantle;

In other awards, Mantle closed out all three spots in the Division Four competition that includes the Havre Daily for Best Ad to Sell or Promote Merchandise, Black and White, taking second and third as well as first place.

Havre Daily News Sports Editor George Ferguson also brought home multiple awards for the Havre Daily, placing second in Best Headline Writing, Sports Column Writing, Best Sports Story and Best Sports Feature Story as well as taking third in Best Sports Column Writing, Best Sports Story and Best Sports Page Layout and Design.

Mantle also earned awards with second-place finishes in the Best Ad to Sell or Promote Merchandise Color and Best Page Layout and Design categories and the Havre Daily took a second-place finish in Best Sponsor Page, attributed to staff.

The Annual meeting started Thursday in Lewistown, including meetings through Saturday and culminating in the Better Newspaper Contest awards banquet Sunday.
