Fort Benton girls crush Chinook in 9C opener
Fort Benton's Aspen Geise races in for a score during a District 9C tournament first-round game Wednesday night at the HHS gymnasium. After beating Chinook, the Longhorns are just one win away from playing for the 9C title for the second straight year and the third time in the last four seasons. Fort Benton plays Turner in tonight's semifinals.
The Fort Benton girls basketball team is no stranger to the District 9C Tournament. However, the fact is, some of their players played it in the tournament for the first time Thursday against Chinook and, on the big stage, the young Longhorns passed their first test with flying colors.
Chinook kept the 9C first-round game game close in the first quarter, but a 29-5 run in the second quarter by Fort Benton put it out of reach, and by the end of the third quarter, a running clock was instituted after the Longhorns went up by 40 points.
