Planning for the Future workshop set

Montana State University Extension is hosting a Planning for the Future workshop Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Havre-Hill County Library.

The workshop was inspired by the financial literacy book club, which was put on by MSU Extension Agent Jasmine Carbajal last summer.

The book chosen was “The Total Money Makeover” by Dave Ramsey with a follow-along workbook, and Carbajal said that throughout the book club discussion, one topic the group wanted more information on was investing and retirement.

Montana State University Department of Agricultural Economics and Economics Associate Specialist Joel Schumacher will be coming to Havre to provide a presentation about investing for retirement.

“He is going to be talking about retirement plans, investing for retirement and different basic things around investing and having resources as well that will be helpful for the community,” she said. “I definitely think that finances and literacy around finances is important because we don’t necessarily get the tools or we don’t think as much nowadays as we did before.”

Schumacher said he will address two primary topics.

“We are going to cover two topics, one of which is understanding your employer-based retirement plan and the other one is about making investments for retirement,” Schumacher said.

He said people will have the opportunity to ask some questions about those important topics and make sure they can get the most out of the plan that’s available to them.

“It will be free; we’ll maybe have some refreshments. So it’s just open to anybody who wants to learn about planning for the future,” Carbajal said.

For more information or questions people can contact Carbajal at 400-2335 or [email protected] .
