MSU-Northern athletic director Christian Oberquell was selected to serve on the NAIA's National Administrative Council's Executive Committee and will chair the Administrative Council's Experience and Enhancement Committee. Oberquell also oversees the Champions of Character Committee and has served as the MSU-N athletic director since 2011.

Christian Oberquell, the Montana State University-Northern director of athletics, was selected to serve on the NAIA's National Administrative Council's Executive Committee. He will also chair the Administrative Council's Experience and Enhancement Committee.

"I am very humbled and excited to be a part of the NAIA's Administrative Council's Executive Committee," Oberquell said. "This is a great honor to sit on this committee and I'm ready to get going."

As a member of the committee, Oberquell will help oversee the National Administrative Council that operates competitions, statistical services, national awards and event management.

On the Experience and Enhancement Committee, Oberquell and other members will seek to create the best experience for student-athletes. They look at areas regarding the health and safety of student-athletes, drug testing at championship events and over the past year, they worked with their Medical Advisory Board on COVID-19 protocols. They also look to aid the experience of their student-athletes by looking at and reviewing hotel ratings, locations, venues and fan support.

"Really anything to make them feel special and create an environment that is enjoyable and an experience they will never forget," Oberquell said about his duties to the NAIA student-athletes.

Oberquell expects his duties will require him to meet with the committee at least twice a month. If issues such as COVID-19 protocols and rule violations need to be discussed, the committee will have to meet more.

The NAIA consists of over 249 colleges across the country, including MSU-N, Carroll College, Montana Tech University, University of Montana-Western, University of Providence and Rocky Mountain College.

Along with his new duty, Oberquell oversees the Champions of Character Committee and serves as the National Sport Liaison for Wrestling and the Wrestling Coaching Association. As the AD for MSU-N athletics since 2011, Oberquell has gained experience that he hopes helps him in his new position.
