Havre issues fire restrictions in the city

Due to the increase in dry conditions and extremely hot weather the City of Havre will be implementing Stage 1 fire restrictions Friday, July 23, 2021, at 12:01 a.m. With the recent grass fires along with the forecasted weather patterns and fire conditions worsening, it is in the best interest of public safety.

The following will be prohibited and punishable by law until further notice:

1. Building and maintaining, attending or using a fire or campfire unless noted in the exceptions below. Recreational fires in a burn pit including below-ground, freestanding fireplaces and portable devices intended to contain and control outdoor fires will not be allowed in the City of Havre.

2. Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least 3 feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials.

Exceptions:

1. Persons with a written permit that specifically authorized the otherwise prohibited act.

2. Persons using a device solely fueled by liquid petroleum or LPG fuel that can be turned on and off. Such devices can only be used in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within 3 feet of device.

3. Persons conducting activities in those areas where the activity is specifically authorized by written posted notice.

4. Any federal, state or local officer of member of an organized rescue firefighting force in the performance of an official duty.
