Havre girls track wins Glendive Twilight to end regular season

The regular season has finally come to an end for the Havre High track and field teams. This past Friday, the Blue Ponies wrapped up weeks of competition with the Bill Kelly Eastern A Twilight Invitational in Glendive. While the HHS boys team finished last in the meet, the HHS girls finished the regular season strong with a first-place finish.

"They did really well," HHS head coach Kari Filius said about the girls' performance. "Probably the best they competed as a group."

The HHS girls team scored 151.25 points to take first while Miles City came in second and Hardin finished third. Many Ponies had strong endings to the regular season to lead Havre to victory.

Freshman Kaydance Reiter had another strong meet with first-place finishes in both the 100-meter sprint and the 200-meter dash. In the 100, she recorded a time of 13.17 and in the 200, she posted a time of 27.04. For her performance at the meet, she was named the meet's best female athlete.

"She just had a really good day. She just competed really well and beat all those girls over there," Filius said. "She just really stood out so she was recognized for her performance."

Hailey Gingery continued to run well in the long-distance runs for the Ponies. She finished first in the 800 with a time of 2:37.63 and she took third in the 1,600 with a personal record of 5:37.74.

Kyanna Jarvis also picked up an event win for Havre as she took first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.77. She also did well in the high jump with a height of 5-00 to take second.

Sadie Filius ran well in the hurdles with a first-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles and a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. In the 300 hurdles, she posted a season record of 51.36 and in the 100 hurdles, she recorded a time of 17.97.

Clara Laird did well for the Ponies in the throwing events. She took first in the javelin with a personal record of 97-02 and she finished sixth in the discus with a distance of 82-10.

Many other Ponies had high finishes on Friday. In the shot put, Maggie Daniels took second with a season record of 30-05.75. Macee May finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 32-07 and she took third in the 100 with a time of 13.80.

Grayce Hitchcock did well in several throwing events. She finished third in the shot put with a distance of 29-07.5 and she took third in the javelin with a distance of 85-05.

Several Ponies did well in the running events. Carolyn Thomas finished fourth in the 200 with a time of 29.81 and she took fifth in the 100 with a time of 14.05. Chloe Shennum finished fifth in the 400 with a personal record of 1:08.60. Emily Leeds took sixth in the 100 with a time of 14.10 and she finished fifth in the long jump with a distance of 13-02.75.

Emma Gillen continued her strong senior season in the hurdles. In the 300-meter hurdles, she placed fourth with a time of 53.27 and in the 100 hurdles, she took fifth with a season record of 17.83.

The HHS girls relay teams did well at the Glendive Twilight. In the 1,600 relay, the team consisting of Filius, Gingery, Jarvis and Reiter finished first with a time of 4:20.52. In the 400 relay, the team of Reiter, May, Filius and Jarvis took first with a finish of 53.41. In the same relay, the HHS team of Thomas, Leeds, Amya Custer and Sophie Drew took fourth with a time of 55.84.

On the boys side, Havre scored 35 points to finish sixth in the meet. Williston scored 137 points to take first while Glendive finished second and Sidney took third. While the HHS boys team did not have the best ending to the regular season, Kari FIlius believes competing against Eastern A schools and improving their scores will help them later on.

"They were pretty good and we had some PRs," Filius said. "It was our first time seeing those teams over there so we got to see what we're up against."

Brayden Kimberling continued to run well for Havre on Friday. He took fourth in the 100 with a time of 11.66 and he also finished fourth in the 200 with a time of 23.91. Shane Patacsil also ran well as he took fourth in the 400 with a time of 56.00.

Many other Ponies ran well on Friday. In the 200, Michael Emge placed fifth with a time of 24.28 and Brisbin Reiter took sixth with a personal record of 24.32. Justin Awtrey finished sixth in the 400 with a time of 57.27.

Caleb Tomac continued to run well in the long-distance events. He finished fourth in the 1,600 with a personal record of 4:36.64 and he placed fifth in the 800 with a personal record of 2:04.89.

Several Ponies did well in the hurdles. In the 110-meter hurdles, Ryker O'Leary finished fifth with a time of 18.62. His teammate Jacob Herring took fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.62.

Havre had some high finishes in the field events at the Glendive Twilight. In the pole vault, senior Riley Pleninger took fourth with a height of 11-06. His teammate Kale VanCampen finished sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 39-06.

The HHS boys relay teams also did well on Friday. In the 800 relay, Havre finished second with a time of 1:49.16. In the 400 relay, the team consisting of Reiter, Patacsil, Emge and Kimberling finished fifth with a time of 46.54. In the 1,600 relay, the Havre team of Tomac, Brody Henry, Orion Thivierge and Trayden Riley finished fifth with a time of 3:40.03.

With the regular season now over, the Ponies can now focus on the postseason beginning next week. As she looks at what they accomplished at the Glendive Twilight, Filius believes there is plenty to learn from and to be optimistic about moving forward.

"We can see where we are and we need to fine tune some things this week," Filius said. "I thought they had a really good day and really cheered each other one. They're a really fun group, they really push each other and support each other."

The HHS track and field teams will compete in the divisionals in Glendive beginning this Friday.
