Obituary - Una N. Moog

Una N. Moog passed on March 15, 2023.

Una Nadine Alley, born February 8, 1928, in Oxford, Kansas, third of seven children to Howard V. Alley and Ellen Keith Alley. The family moved to Chester in March of 1929. She attended schools in Chester, Joplin and her senior year in Conrad, graduating with the class of 1946. Una enjoyed playing in the Chester High School band and also was a twirler in the marching band. She played saxophone, which she passed down to her grandson.

Una married Robert William Moog June 2, 1946 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Conrad. Their first home was a farm south of Joplin until Bob's aunt sold the farm in April 1951. They moved to Inverness to the house they lived in for nearly 70 years. Moving into the house with two small boys, they soon outgrew the home, which lead to additions to make room for the nine children they raised.

She was one of the first lectors and Eucharistic Ministers at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Inverness. She also had many offices in the Sacred Heart Circle, taught catechism classes, was a PTA booster and member of the school board, election judge, and clerk at the local post office, member of T.O.P.S where she held office since joining in 1984 and worked alongside Bob on the Inverness Water Board for many years.

Una also enjoyed team bowling and square dancing in her younger years. She belonged to Broken Mountain Genealogy Society and helped transcribe legal documents from the early 1900's from Fort Benton, Chouteau County from when this area was still part of Chouteau County.

Una was the family historian, following the path of her mother, Ellen, collecting family data of the Alley, Mader, Moog, Keith and White families. She kept a detailed daily diary on everything she did and everyone that she encountered. She enjoyed learning and collecting the history of many things beyond her own family, including area families, town histories, schools histories, especially her beloved Inverness Cardinals. She loved to know everyone's names and who their relatives were. She knew people from all over the world and kept in contact with them. She enjoyed completing two crossword puzzles daily and loved to read the comics, sharing her laughter with anyone in the room.

One of the activities she especially enjoyed was the harvest dinners she prepared to take to the field in the cook wagon to feed as many as 20 or more hard-working harvest crew members. She perfected the timing of getting that hot meal to everyone on the crew and anyone else that would happen to be visiting or stopping by.

In retirement years, Bob and Una enjoyed traveling to England, Scotland, France and Canada as well as several states visiting family and friends which included many family reunions to collect more data.

Bob and Una stayed in the family home until November 2014, when Una had a brain aneurism. After rehabbing in Great Falls, they both moved into Wheat Country Estates in March 2015. Both loved the staff, all of their TLC, enjoyed all the activities provided and thought they had the best room with the view of the Sweetgrass Hills. Una continued to stay there after Bob passed away June 2, 2018, which was their 72nd wedding anniversary, until January 9, when she was hospitalized, suffered a stroke and was admitted to long-term care.

Una was preceded in death by husband, Bob; her mother and father; sisters, VerDel Pourroy, Claudine Smith and infant Noreen; brothers, Bert, Keith and infant Edmond Alley; and grandsons John David Moog and Cole Moog.
