Obituary - Linda Ann Griggs

Linda Ann Griggs, 75, passed away due to natural causes April 21, 2023, at Northern Montana Hospital in Havre, Montana. 

A funeral service will be today, April 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Havre with Pastor Megan Hoewisch officiating.  Fellowship will follow at the church.  

A funeral service will be held at Pondera Valley Lutheran Church in Conrad, Montana Friday, April 28th at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Stoopes officiating. Burial to follow at the Conrad Cemetery followed by a reception at the Moose Lodge.

Linda was born September 21, 1947 in Shelby, MT, to William and LaRue (Markey) Corcoran. She  attended all of her school years in Conrad and graduated from Conrad High School in 1965. She was a former Conrad Lions Club Whoop-Up Queen and a pianist for her high school choir. After graduation she attended Great Falls Business College.  

Linda married her high school sweetheart, Eugene Knobel, Sept.18, 1965, and to this union three children were born, Tommy, Debbie and Cindy. Eugene passed suddenly July 7, 1985.

Linda married Earl Duncan on May 17, 1986 and added six step-children to her family, which grew to many grandchildren and great-grand children. Earl passed away in 2016.

Linda married Jim Griggs on April 6, 2019 in Havre, Montana, and added four step-children, more grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the crew. 

Over the years Linda waited tables at the Branding Iron, worked at the Orpheum Theatre, was a secretary at various businesses in Conrad, Pondera County Extension secretary and was an insurance agent until her retirement.  

Linda belonged to the Conrad JayCeens (Past President), East Slope Backcountry Horsemen, Conrad Ladies of the Moose Lodge; was a leader in Girl and Boy Scouts, taught Sunday School and Bible School at Pondera Lutheran Church, taught CPR/First Aid and was active on the Pondera County Ambulance as a volunteer EMT for 10 years.

She had a passion for music, enjoyed playing cards, camping, which often had her playing her accordion around the campfire. Linda never missed sending a birthday or anniversary card to those she loved. She enjoyed travelling and visiting with family all over the country. She was well known for her cinnamon rolls, cooking and hosting friends and family in her home. She generously shared her gifts of music and food wherever needed.

Linda was an active member and organist since 1980 at the Pondera Valley Lutheran Church in Conrad. The past four years Linda has been a member and organist at the First Lutheran Church in Havre.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Eugene Knobel and Earl Duncan, her brother Larry Corcoran and step-son Keenan Duncan.  

Survivors include her husband Jim Griggs of Havre, her son, Tommy (Kate) Knobel of Colorado Springs, CO; daughters, Debbie (Brian) Williams of Taber, Alberta, Canada and Cindy Fuson of Conrad, MT; step-children Rhonda (David) Ramsey of Buffalo WY, Susan (Mark) Elings of Lewistown, MT, Kathy Lynch of Havre, MT, Khristy (Bill) Barber of Belgrade, MT, Kelly (Al) Turk of Benson, AZ,  Cameron (Chesa) Griggs, Chamene (Cliff) Plum, Vanessa (Mark) Griggs and Kendall (Rose) Griggs.

Linda's grandchildren meant the world to her. Rebecca Knobel (Rob) Aspell,  Breanna Knobel, Alexandria Knobel, Kayla (Norby) Williams, Drew Williams, Jesse (Becky) Fuson,  Colby (Christina) Fuson, Tanner (Sarah) Fuson, Sara Ramsey (Robby) Lyon, Rachel Ramsey, Leah Ramsey (Adam) Majeski, Justin (Mary) Elings, Tara Elings, Erin Lynch, Jack (Carina) Lynch, Katie Barber (Robert) McDonnell, Zeb (Aurora) Barber, Langdon Turk, Gina Griggs, Kayla (Auston) Griggs, Alicia Griggs, Keiana Griggs, Christina (Eric) Schweigert, Zach (Randi) Plum, Dante Plum, Berlyn and Bailey Griggs, Sidney, Luke and Sadie Griggs.  She has 25 great-grandchildren, two on the way, many extended family, and dear friends that were like family.
