MSU-Northern rodeo rides at home

Over the weekend, the Montana State University-Northern rodeo teams hosted a pair of rodeos up on the Hi-Line. In the first rodeo, the MSU-N women's team finished first while the MSU-N men's team took third. Then in the second rodeo, the Skylights took second while the Lights finished third.

In the first rodeo, the MSU-N women's team won with 420 total points. Montana State University took second while Montana Western came in third. MSU-N's Mikenna Schauer took first in women's all-around with 420 total points.

Schauer finished first in breakaway roping with a time of 3.9. She finished second as the team roping header with a time of 14.8. Schauer also took third in goat tying with a time of 15.1.

The MSU-N men's team finished third in the first rodeo with 340 total points. Montana Western finished first with 1,155 total points while MSU finished second in the rodeo. Garrett Cunningham finished first in saddle bronc riding with a score of 158. His teammate Miles Graveley finished eighth in saddle bronc riding with a score of 40.

Preston Bird finished fifth as the team roping header with a time of 4.9. Gavin McLean took second as the team roping heeler with a time of 14.8 and his teammate Talan Cumming took fifth as the team roping heeler with a time of 4.9.

In the second rodeo over the weekend, the MSU-N women's team finished second with 320 total points. MSU finished first with 455 total points while Western came in third. Schauer once again took first in women's all-around with 320 total points.

Schauer finished first in breakaway roping with a time of 4.2. She also took third in goat tying with a time of 14.2 while her teammate Georgia Orahood took second in goat tying with a time of 14.0. Schauer took fifth as the team roping header with a time of 6.6.

The MSU-N men's team scored 510 total points to finish third in the final rodeo of the weekend. MSU took first in the road with 705 total points while Western finished second.

Several Lights performed well in saddle bronc riding to end the weekend. Cunningham took first in the event with a score of 152. Wing Augare took sixth and Graveley finished eighth in the event as well. Tobin Cummins took first as the team roping header with a time of 17.5 while Bird took fourth with a time of 5.8.

Rope Three Irons took first as the team roping heeler with a time of 17.5. Cummins took fourth with a time of 5.8 while McLean took fifth with a time of 6.6. Brier Selvidge took fourth in steer wrestling with a time of 10.1 and Chance Story took eighth in tie down roping with a time of 9.8.

The MSU-N rodeo teams will next compete in a rodeo in Dillon hosted by Montana Western starting Friday.
