NaKoda Siegel wins Grand View title

It was a short turnaround for the Montana State University-Northern wrestling team.

After the Lights’ dual with arch rival Providence last Wednesday, Northern traveled to Iowa for the Grand View Open Saturday. The tournament, hosted by NAIAS powerhouse Grand View University, featured a loaded field of teams and competitors, and was a good proving ground for the Lights.

Northern’s NaKoda Siegel won the 174-pound championship at the tournament. He dominated his first match with a tech fall 19-2. He won his next round by a decision 7-2 against C. Swalla. Siegel won his next match in a sudden victory against M. Rojas to move to the championship round. He beat C. Schmidt by a sudden victory 4-1 to take first place.

Siegel was one of three Lights to place at Grand View.

Devin Crawford also took fourth place at 165 pounds, while Austin Vanek finished fifth at 184.

Northern returns to tourney action this weekend when the Lights travel to the Spokane Open in Washington state.
