Obituary - Hazel Josephine (Zeltinger) Jochim

Hazel Josephine (Zeltinger) Jochim, 100, a beloved family member and active individual on the Hi-Line, died of natural causes April 5, 2024, at Liberty Medical Center in Chester.

Hazel is survived by her nieces and nephews, Larry Jochim (Donna Bennett) of Mesa, AZ, Thomas (Kay) Jochim of Mesa, AZ, Deanna (Doug) Beaudoin of Spokane, WA, Marcus (Beverly) Jochim of Inverness, MT, Marlene (Louis) Biondo of Danbury, WI, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Raphael Jochim, and her six older siblings, Mary Bauer, Florence Resch, Irene Pommier, Joseph Zeltinger, Clarence Zeltinger and Agnes Jochim.

Hazel was born November 7, 1923 at the Zeltinger farm house near Tolley, North Dakota. She grew up on the farm with her siblings doing daily farm chores and attending school. After completing high school, she attended Minot State College to obtain her teaching certificate. She taught at numerous schools beginning at Henry School in ND, and then in Montana schools in Joplin, Inverness, Chester, and finally over 10 years in Hingham.  She educated many young minds over the years.

While living on the Hi-Line, she met her future husband, Frank Jochim, at a community dance. They married June 2, 1949. Hazel became well-known for her long braid wrapped on her head and being a regular swimmer at the Hingham Community Pool. When her sister Agnes became ill, Hazel moved to the Jochim farm south of Inverness to unconditionally love and care for her sister.

Hazel thoroughly loved painting, dancing, tending to her plants, and spending time with her family and dogs. She will be deeply missed by friends, family, and those who knew her. Her smile, her selflessness, and her kind eyes will not go unforgotten.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 13, 2024, at  3 p.m. at Hingham Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Hi-Line Health Foundation.
