Boy disciplined for having knife at Havre school

Administrators at Lincoln-McKinley Primary School have disciplined a 10-year-old boy who brought a pocketknife to the school Friday, Superintendent of Schools Kirk Miller said.

The student will not face a criminal charge of carrying a concealed weapon because the knife was not over 4 inches long, Havre police Capt. Mike Barthel saidy.

"He didn't break any law," Barthel said.

The Havre police received the call from the school about the incident at 10:19 a.m. Friday.

Because the presence of the knife violated school policy, the student has been disciplined by the school administrators.

"We have a policy that says we don't want any kind of weapons in the school environment," Miller said.

Miller would not say what the disciplinary action was.
