Youth golf tour wraps up at Beaver Creek
July 26, 2002
The seven-week Taco John's Youth Golf Tour wrapped up its competitive season at Beaver Creek Golf Course on Thursday. The youth tour showcased young Hi-Line golfers ranging in age from 11 to 17.
This week's action saw 19 participants teeing off in Thursday's tournament. Boys competed in three different age divisions, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-17. Girls had a 15-17 age division.
Zach Kerbs of Fort Benton improved his second-place finish at Fort Benton in June by shooting an 86 to edge out Cory Stremcha (87) of Havre, for first place in the boys' 15-17 division. Cody McBride of Shelby was third with a 91.
Havre's up and coming talent showed their abilities by finishing first, second and third in the 13-14 boys' division. Matt Hedstrom shot a 94, taking the victory in his age group for the second time on the tour. Sean Strand came in second with a 110, while Kyle Surber finished with a 115.
The 11-12 boys showed their talent by boasting the low score of the day with Malta's K.C. Kindle shooting an 85 to take his age group's top spot. K.C. is no stranger to first place on the Taco John's Youth Tour. He finished first in Chinook and first in Shelby, where there were more than 55 participants. Jeremy Jensen of Havre proved he is a golfer to watch as well, shooting a 92 for second place, while Sean Gilligan finished third with a 103.
The girls' 15-17 age group was lead by Shannon Newth, who was new to the leader board of the youth tour. Newth was a little disappointed with her 18-hole score of 120, but was pleased and excited with the first place finish. Jamie Nickol of Ledger turned in a 127 for second and Havre's Amanda Brock carded a 132 to complete the top three spots for the final competition.
