The pain will not leave

I don't remember now if I actually watched the second plane hit live or if it was a replay.
I was in the newsroom. Our publisher, Harvey Brock, came in and urgently told us to turn on the TV. He'd seen the devastation at home and quickly realized the World Trade Center had been attacked by terrorists.
What I do remember clearly is the sense of loss, very much like the horrific pain of losing a best friend or a beloved relative. But the pain, although as deep, was less intense, as if the brain realized that no human heart could withstand the loss of so many in that little bit of time.
