The 2002 football season has ended, but the Havre High football team continues to rack up honors. The Ponies, who finished runner-up to the Class A state champion Laurel Locomotives, had several players earn all-state honors for their play during this past season. Six seniors from the Ponies earned all-state honors with three players earning awards at multiple positions.

Senior captains Levi Briese, Justin Kegel, Steve Heberly and Tyson Roe earned all-state awards on both offense and defense. All four were named to the first team offense.

Briese, who rushed for 257 yards against Belgrade, was named first team all-state fullback. Briese also was named to the second team defense at linebacker after establishing a new Pony record for most tackles in a season.

Heberly, who finished his career at Havre High as the all-time leader in pass receptions and yardage, was named first team wide receiver. He also earned second team honors at cornerback and first team as a return specialist.

Kegel, who broke just about every individual passing record for a season, shared first team honors at quarterback with Laurel's Jeff Fischer and Dillon's Torrey Thomas. Kegel was also named to the second team as a free safety.

Roe, who anchored both the offensive and defensive line was named to the first team offense as a guard while being named to the second team as a defensive tackle.

Besides the four captains, senior Todd Sharp, one of Havre's most consistent performers earned second team all-state honors on both offense and defense. Sharp, who made the switch to the interior offensive line, earned the honors at offensive tackle. He also was a second team defensive end.

Senior Steven Harman also earned second team honors at cornerback. Harman made the team despite missing several games with various injuries including a broken nose.
