Havre nurses ratify contract

The local nurses union Monday night ratified a tentative contract reached last week with Northern Montana Health Care.

Raymond Berg, a labor relations specialist with the Montana Nurses Association, said 93 percent of the members of Local No. 12 who voted cast ballots to approve the contract.

The union represents about 100 of about 150 nurses at Northern Montana Health Care.

The two-year contract includes an 8.8 percent first-year raise for hospital and long-term care registered nurses, and a 9.2 percent first-year raise for RNs working in doctors' offices. The contract also gives a second-year raise of 6 percent to both groups.

The contract includes agreements on other issues like shift differentials, personal time and sick leave, and premium pay.

The nurses union requested that a federal mediator step in after three months of negotiations.

The contract ratified was arrived at after 17 hours of mediated negotiations, starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
